The newly launched Jaybird X4 headphones are definitely something you want to look at if you are sports Bluetooth headphones enthusiast and are on a constant hunt for the perfect sports Bluetooth headphones for your workout sessions.
However, most of you must be wondering if the Jaybird X4 is any different from the Jaybird X3 headphones and if you really need to upgrade to the X4 or not!
Well, in case you are looking for your answer then you should read this detailed comparison post where we discuss the features on both the earbuds in great detail!
Design and Build Quality
The design of the X4 is a little different from the X3, both the earbuds have fin tips and earbuds designed for an amazing fit and comfort. However, the X4 has a silicone fin tip making the earbuds more comfortable to wear.
The other main difference in the design would be the clip that manages the length of the wire. The wire clip in the X3 was slightly better in managing the length of the wire in comparison to the Jaybird X4.
The Jaybird X4 does have a cinch but it does not have a clip which makes the wire bounce off the shoulders especially during running or jumping.
Overall, the Logo, inline remote, the length of the cord connecting the earbuds remain the same for both the Jaybird X3 and the Jaybird X4 wireless earbuds.
The build quality is amazing in both of the headphones and they come with the intangible wires making them easy to use and manage.
As mentioned in the review of the Jaybird X4 headphones, the sound quality on both the headphones is pretty amazing and there is nothing additional that would make me want to say that you HAVE to upgrade to the Jaybird X4’s if you want to have an amazing music listening experience.
Both the headphones have the same app that can be used to modify the sound quality, so you can change the sound settings according to your taste.
The foam ear tips that come with the headphones give you are really nice noise cancellation os in the case you have a pair of headphones that cancel all the outside noise then you should definitely go with the Jaybird X4.
The noise cancellation might be an is
sue if you plan on doing your workout outdoors where you need to be aware of your surrounding, especially during a run.
It can be a little difficult to reduce or cancel out the noise cancellation and all you can do is reduce the volume or remove one of the earbuds from your ears.
You can easily pick up calls on these earbuds and we had no problem in having a conversation on these headphones.
Both the earbuds are comfortable to wear, however, the softer fin tips in the Jaybird X4 headphones is an added advantage that makes the earbuds more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time.
The fin tips on the X3 is a little harder and many people found that a bit uncomfortable.
Coming to the ear tips, you get the silicone ones and the foam ear tips. The foam ear tips are perfect for someone who is looking for the best noise cancellation as they cancel out all the surrounding noises giving you the perfect music listening experience.
The wire length can be managed with the help of the cinch provided in the X4, however, the X3 had a clip which made the whole headphones stay as they are as in the case of the X4 headphones you might find the wires bounce up and down while you are doing some extensive exercises.
Overall, the earbuds stay put inside your ears even during an extensive workout session so they are comfortable and you can easily use them for extended periods of time.
The X4 has an IPX7 rating which is slightly better than the X3. However, the only major difference being you can submerge the X4 underwater for 30 minutes which is pretty good but since Bluetooth does not work inside water you cannot use these headphones for swimming, so what was the point?
The X3 headphones are completely water resistant as well so if you are looking for headphones that can withstand a lot of sweat, water and dust then both the X3 and the X4 are pretty good headphones and would work out well in different weather conditions.
The time they last really depends on how you plan on using these headphones, as long as you maintain them they can last really long without any major damages.
The battery life on the Jaybird X3 is 8 hours and the X4 is around 9 hours, so both have almost the same battery life and honestly, we thought the Jaybird X4 could have launched with a better battery life making it worth the price point.
However, the quick charge on the X4 headphones is 10 minutes, so with 10 minutes of charging you can get an hour of playback time. The quick charge on the X3 headphones is 20 minutes, so you get an hour of playback when you charge the headphones for 20 minutes.
Overall, the battery life is average and there was no major improvement with the Jaybird X4 headphones. It is very similar to the X3 headphones with just an hour difference.
They could have done a bit better to make the battery last longer. If the battery lasted for 10 hours or more then this new launch would have definitely made so much more sense.
Both the headphones are pretty good, however, when you compare them with each other, the Jaybird X4 has a few advanced features but they are not that great that I would recommend you to upgrade if you already own a pair of Jaybird X3.
Considering the price point of the Jybaird X3 dropping down, I think at this point you can actually go for the Jaybird X3 as they have all the necessary features that you would need and there isn’t any feature on the X4 that really calls out to me and makes me want to recommend it to everyone.
I guess we were fine with the Jaybird X3 and with the price drop, it is more tempting to bend towards the X3 headphones.
However, if you think you would like a better design of the fin tips and want a headphone with IPX7 rating then you might as well go for the Jaybird X4 headphones.
Overall I prefer for the Jaybird X3 headphones, check both the headphones and let us know what you think in the comments below!
